Spring Fair Notice

Good morning everyone ,

Unfortunately we have had very disappointing ticket sales for the Spring Fair on 10th May . As this event takes  a lot of planning and preparation, we really need to know that we will have enough people attending to make it worthwhile .  We are aware that there are a lot of events on around this time so we are considering re-scheduling this event . If you would like to attend , please buy a ticket ASAP. A final decision will be made on Thursday so we'll let you know on Friday if we are going ahead . If not , we will reschedule for later in the year .

Other events coming up at Craigton - the Sunflowers Sports Day will be on Wednesday 25th June at 3pm- all sunflowers participate in this and all family members are welcome to come along .  There will also be a short Graduation ceremony for those children leaving to start P1. This is always a very well attended event- please be aware that seating is limited , so  bring along a blanket to sit on . We'll give you more details on this nearer the time , but please keep that date free . Be aware that there is parent participation too so wear your trainers! This event is
We will also be welcoming Linda from Tempest Photography  on  Thursday 5th June . She will take a class photo of all the sunflowers , as well as individual and a group photo of the graduating children (those starting P1 in August . If your child does not normally attend on a Thursday morning , please bring them along for 9:30 am ready to be photographed . You will need to stay with them and leave after the pictures have been taken . Linda works to a very tight schedule , so please get here in time or you may not be in the photos!

Next week we will be welcoming Jen Dornan back for the summer . Jen has been with us for the past 4 summers . She has now completed her studies in Edinburgh , so this will probably be her last stint with us. Jen will be providing relief cover in all departments until August.
Petra has returned from her African adventure , and we are looking forward to hearing all about her experience- welcome back to you both .

Please remember to tell us if your child will not be attending for any reason....we do need to know who will be here each day.  Advance notice of holidays would be appreciated(email is fine) and please call us if the absence is that day - thank you .

And finally , don't forget that the nursery will be closed for the MayDay holiday this coming Monday 5th May

Happy Easter

Hello everyone ,

and Happy Easter to you all ! We have been celebrating at Craigton  with all things egg and bunny related! There has been painting and sticking and tissue paper and glitter , cards and egg baskets , baking and all manner of crafty things going on - please make sure you check your child's file and take home your Easter treats .
The sunflowers have been having a great time in their new house corner, enjoying the kitchen makeover and rivalling Masterchef for entertainment, whilst the schoolhouse children have been very busy planting lots of seeds both indoors and in the growing areas outdoors .
We have been continuing to make the most of  the spring weather and spending a lot of time out of doors. The children are having great fun with the new resources -especially the construction crates which have sparked some marvellous imaginative play- they  have been used to create kitchens , boats , space rockets and a  pirate ship or two! The half pipe has been very popular with the older children too encouraging physical play with balancing on both sides , as well as being used as a giant rocker .
There has also  been great activity in the outdoor cafe , with orders being taken . served and enjoyed by the customers , and lots of planting going on in the new portable greenhouses. The sensory plant area  is also coming on well with the plants really starting to grow and release their scents, and we are seeing new buds appearing on the orchard trees . Tony the gardener is here just now and the sunflowers are very excited watching him clear the garden with his big leaf blower!
Our new sheds have arrived too , but unfortunately some parts are damaged and we are awaiting placements - we hope to have theses installed very soon .
Our very busy handyman Fred hopes to have the speedbumps across the entrance to the carpark in place this weekend - they should be installed by Tuesday so please slow down! There will be a gap at one side to allow access for prams, buggies and cyclists. A reminder to also stay in the lower carpark- the upper park is for staff only- this is really important as the children use this area to access the garden , and the driveway to get to the orchard- please keep this area traffic free -  thank you .

A reminder to please let us know if your child will not be attending for any reason - we need to know who will be here each day in order to arrange staffing and activities- wherever possible please call us rather than email if its not advance notice - we dont always access email til later in the day .

We will soon be issuing an updated administration of medication policy to all parents . This will clearly set out when and how we will give a child non prescription medication . This  is currently under review to make the procedure clearer to all . In the meantime , can I please remind you all that if your child has a temperature , or has been given medication to reduce one , they should not come to nursery. If a child is unwell they should remain at home until recovered . We ask  this to ensure the health of all the children and staff at Craigton. We do not have the facilities or training to care for ill children, and any viruses/infections spread very quickly in a nursery environment .  Your co-operation would be very much appreciated .

Dont forget our Spring Fayre is on Saturday 10th May 12-2pm  - please come along and bring all your friends . Tickets for this are now on sale in both buildings- £5.00 for  a family or a donation on the day. We'd also be grateful for any donations for raffle prizes. Our thanks to Fraser(sunflowers) and his parents for their very generous donation of a super duper prize that you will all have a chance to win on the day....now that's got you interested ! You'll have to come along to see it. :-)

And finally , please remember that we are closed on Easter Monday - thats this coming Monday . We know how much you love coming here , but please dont turn up then as you wont get in! The extra long weekend will give you time to eat all those eggs.
I will be on leave all next week so please call us if you need to tell/ask us anything - email will not be monitored . I'll be back on Monday 21st April .

We are also closed on the following dates this year :
MayDay - 5th May
Aberdeen holidays: 14th July and 21st September
Close 6pm Tuesday 23rd Dec and re-open 8am Monday 5th Jan 2015

Springtime

Good morning all ,

we are continuing to make the most of the spring weather and spending a great deal of time outdoors. The children have been denbuilding , having fun in the mud kitchen , constructing lots of wonderful things with the new building crates , painting , decorating stones , exploring water and sand , as well as digging , weeding and planting in the growing areas. In doing this , they have all at sometime needed a change of clothes - and some children still do not have these at nursery . Our nursery stock of clothing is now much depleted as a result . Can you please return any nursery items you may have at home , and ensure that your child has a full change of clothes each day they are here . We'd also be very grateful for any old clothing you no longer need.

Staying outdoors - our handyman Fred has been very busy the last few weeks and will be installing the speedbump at the entrance to the carpark in the next few days - please be aware that this will soon be in place and watch your speed! We will be leaving a space for baby buggies and prams to have easy access There will also be new signs in the carpark alerting everyone of the speed bump and to reverse park . Please also stay in the lower carpark - the upper one is for staff only . Can I also remind you all again to please close and chain the gates every time you use them . I'm sorry to have to nag about this but there are STILL some parents not doing this- observing these measures will help us to keep all the children at Craigton safe and we need everyone's co-operation here - thank you .

Ante- pre school children will find the next in the series of 'Go safe with Ziggy' books in their files today . These are issued by the Scottish Executive and highlight the importance of road safety . We also have these as big books in the nursery so the message is reinforced here. For more information as well as stories and activities , please go to        http://www.gosafewithziggy.com/

Tickets for our Spring Fayre will be on sale next week . The committee this year are Julie , Isabel and Cari and they have been busy organising all kinds of fun for the day . There will be tattoos and face painting and games for all as well as the famous homebaking stall , the cafe for the tired out adults and a BBQ too! Tickets are £5 for a family , or a donation on the day. It does help us if you get your tickets beforehand as it gives us an idea of how many will be coming  There will be lots to spend your pocket money on so raid those piggy banks and bring everyone along on Saturday 10th May 12-2pm . All donations for the raffle will be warmly welcomed, and we'll also ask for homebakes nearer the time.

And as if that wasn't enough we have Easter coming too! All the children have been making some lovely Easter goodies(when we're not out having fun in the garden) and there will be even more next week - dont forget to check their files every day or you may miss their wonderful creations . To give you plenty of time to eat all those Easter eggs and don your bonnets, remember that we shall be closed on Easter Monday 21st April .

We have had a few enquires regarding the date of the Sunflowers Sports Day and Graduation- we are clearly not as organised as you and have not yet set a date - but it is likely to be the last week of June - we will post the date on here as soon as we have it!

Spring Fayre

Hello everyone ,

well as we are now in British Summertime its once again cold and raining! No to be deterred  , we shall  be having our Spring Fayre on Saturday 10th May 12-2pm . This is our major fundraiser for the year and is always a very well attended event . More details will follow once our committee have finalised their plans , but please make sure you keep that day free . Tickets for this should be on sale next week- we are also looking for donation for the raffle please .

Last week Joanne from Gardening 4 Kids came along and had the sunflowers making bird feeders- I hope that the birds in your gardens are benefiting from these now . We've also been observing the signs of spring , with flowers appearing and some encouraging signs of growth on our fruit tress in the orchard  . All the children have  had fun with the newly created mud kitchen , as well as some new outdoor resources- the half pipe has been particularly popular! We are also expecting our new sheds next week , so lets hope the rain stops so we can assemble them !
We feel its really important that the children are outdoors for at least part of the day , but we can only do this if they are appropriately dressed - please remember to bring suitable outdoor(that means waterproof) clothing and footwear , a full change of clothes , and soft soled shoes or slippers for indoors .
We also have a lot of old wellies and clothes - can you please check the boxes in both buildings and take away anything that belongs to you . This is  also a good time to check that all clothing/footwear at nursery still fits your child - they do grow very quickly!

On Monday we had a 2 special visitors - Gregor (sunflowers) invited his ballet teacher , Mrs Stewart and her assistant Miss Megan , to come along and show the children some ballet moves . They had great fun with music and movement , stretching and dancing , and were also treated to a demonstration of some pointe work by Miss Megan , It was great fun and we'd all like to thank them very much for coming along .
Emma Stewart holds various dance classes for children - if you'd like further information you can contact  her at       emma@deesidedancecentre.co.uk

Our handyman Fred has been very busy preparing the carpark entrance ready to install speed bumps . We are expecting these to arrive next week sometime and they will be fitted shortly after that . As soon as this happens we will inform you , but PLEASE be aware that this is happening soon and slow right down when entering/leaving the car park. (we will be leaving a space on one side for buggys and prams) The speed limit in the carpark is walking speed- please go very slowly , observe the reverse parking rule , and keep to the lower carpark- the top carpark is for staff only . And another reminder to ensure that you close and chain the gates every time . This has improved dramatically in the past months , but there are still some of you not doing this. As we are more often outside now this is even more important- please ensure you do this and help us to keep your children safe. Thank you

We hope that all mums had  a lovely Mother's Day and were spoiled by your children :-) some of you missed out on your Mother's Day cards from nursery - please remember to check your child's file every day they attend to ensure that you get all these beautiful creations on time . There is also lots of other information placed in the children's files - party invitations , book club order forms, show and tell requests etc and you may miss out if you dont check these regularly .

Its the school holidays over the next two weeks and some of you will be going away - please remember to tell us if your child will be absent from nursery  for any reason - its very important that we know who will be attending each day .

Speaking of holidays....dont forget that we shall be closed on the following dates this year:
Easter Monday - 21st April
May Day - 5th May
Aberdeen Holidays - 14th July and 22nd September

We'll close at 6pm Tuesday 23rd Decemebr and re-open 8am Monday 5th January 2015
