Sunny days!

Good morning everyone ,

at Craigton we are continuing to enjoy the glorious weather and spending as much time as possible outside - we are all making the most of it while it lasts! Please remember to bring in suncream for your child and a sunhat . We do have stocks of both which we can use if your child doesn't have these items at nursery, but please supply these as soon as you can (clearly labelled with your child's name please). Also a full change of clothing each day (including suitable footwear) would be much appreciated . Thank you .

Our thanks to Deirdre and Gavin Strachan who are bringing us some logs for the garden - very much appreciated! The children are continuing to enjoy the pop up tents and are still making lovely dens with fabric in the garden - these change daily and have given rise to some wonderful imaginative role-play , problem solving and co-operation amongst the children- they've also tested the problem solving skills of the staff at times !

The younger children are having a great time with the small tents and tunnel, as well as their new ride on toys , and the outdoor sand/water play table and everyone is enjoying seeing the signs of spring/summer appear in the garden and further afield .

Don't forget  that its Easter next weekend and the nursery will be closed on Easter Monday 9th April , but we are open on Good Friday.  For those who have  asked, we are also open on the following Monday 16th April which is a local holiday.

And finally , please let us know if your child will not be at nursery for any reason -  written notice of holidays would be appreciated(email is fine  marion.barker@clns.co.uk ) and call to let us know if they wont be here for any other reason - Thank you

Hello Spring!

Hello everyone ,

Yesterday was officially the first  day of spring and my goodness isn't it just! :-) We are all thoroughly enjoying the beautiful weather at Craigton , spending much of each day outdoors . I can hear the children in the garden as I write this . The babies and buttercups are having a  great time with their new ride-on toys , sand/water play table and the pop-up tents and tunnels . As we are hopefully heading towards a scorching summer , its time to stock up on suncream again . Can you all please provide us with sunscreen for your child - clearly labelled with  their name. Thank you

Inside , the schoolhouse children are continuing to explore their newly restocked treasure baskets- thanks to those who have donated items- , while the sunflowers have been investigating the topic of  bodies- they've been looking at a model skeleton , Zac and his bones, and animal X-rays on the lightbox .

The pre-school building is also being painted at the moment . As the work can only be done when the nursery is closed , this job will take some time so  please look out for wet paint over the next few weeks. It also means that all the children's work /displays will be taken down , so don't panic if you see bare walls - we're still very busy , just getting prepared!

All the Craigton children are looking forward to Easter and there are some lovely activities planned leading up to this . As the schools are on holiday , some of you may be going away for Easter- if so don't forget to tell us please(and have a lovely time)!

British Summertime begins this weekend - that means the clocks go FORWARD one hour Saturday night/Sunday morning - so you'll loose an hours sleep but it'll soon be summer :-)

A reminder that the nursery will be closed on Easter Monday 9th April , but we are open on Good Friday .

Mothers Day

Good afternoon everyone ,

A quick reminder that it's Mother's Day on Sunday - please don't forget! Remember to check your child's file/folder this week as all the children have  been very busy creating some lovely things for this special day and we wouldn't want anyone to miss out on these! Its also St. Patrick's Day on Saturday so could be a busy weekend!

Some of you will have had a note  from me recently about a second visit for pre-school  sight tests next week - I'm afraid that this has now been cancelled by the optician . If your child has not been checked , you'll be contacted by your local health centre to arrange this .

Charlotte (Senior EYP schoolhouse) has a bike suitable for 4-5yrs  up for grabs - its been used but still in good working order- if you can make use of this please see Charlotte- she'd like it to go to a good home!

We're looking for some logs for the garden - if you have any that you don't use or know where we can get some , please let us know - we'd like a selection of sizes , some for seating and building , others for general outdoor play - thank you .

When you have a moment , please  log onto the blogspot and subscribe to comments as well as the blog - there's a check box at the bottom of each blog - we had a comment recently about easyfundraising , but unfortunately nobody saw it ! We also now have instant reaction boxes too so you don't even need to  comment , just click on a box - we'd really appreciate your feedback!

Looking ahead - don't forget that the nursery will be closed on the following dates this year:
Monday 9th April - Easter Monday
Monday 7th May- May Day
Monday 9th July and Monday24th September - local holidays

And finally ....our fundraising Family Funday will be on Saturday 2nd June 12-3pm . We'll give you more information about this nearer the time , but please keep this date free! Its always a great day and we hope to see you all there :-)

Its been a lot of hard work on Jillian's part , and great support from her Craigton colleagues (thank you).
Well done Jillian :-)

Happy St.David's Day

Good afternoon everyone ,

and we have a glorious St.David's Day - in past years we have been knee deep in snow , so sunshine is most welcome. The children are out in the garden as I write this , having a great time by the sounds of it - lots of laughter today! They have taken the tent outside and are camping in the garden , whilst others are extending this , and have started to build dens with fabric over the wooden bars. Recently they've also had the new bubble machine in the garden which has sparked off some fabulous conversations about bubbles , flying , space , fairies and many other things , The younger children love this too- chasing the bubbles around trying to catch them , looking at them moving in the breeze and watching the rainbow colours shift and change in the sunshine - Spring has arrived at  Craigton and its wonderful  :-)

Its also World Book Day today . Thank you to all who brought in their favourite book - we've even had some children make an extra special effort and have come dressed as their favourite characters!  I hope you all received your vouchers for WBD - if you haven't yet used them , you can do so if you wish to order anything from the Scholastic brochure now in your children's files - you can also use them at any retailer in the country when buying books . If you're using them online , please remember to go through www.easyfundraising.org  and you'll be raising funds for the nursery too!
The use of this site was brought up at the recent Parent Forum meeting - we think its a great way to raise funds with minimal effort . Just register , download the reminder tool (which itself raises 50p) and every time you shop online , it will tell you if the retailer is on easyfundraiser. If so , your purchases will help raise money for us. And it doesn't cost you a penny!

A reminder to please ensure that your contact details are totally up to date , and that you let us know if your child will not be attending nursery for any reason . We've had a couple of incidents this week of children not attending and the contact numbers we have are out of date . Its very important that we know which children will be attending each day and that we have current contact details - we also need to contact you quickly  if your child is unwell , needs medication or first aid ...so please ensure that we are able to - Thank you .

I've had  a query about posting comments on the blog from a parent - you will have to log onto the site to do this . Go to   craigtonlodgenursery.blogspot.com (no w's). Find the blog you wish to comment on - there is  a space at the bottom of each blog for you to add comments . Ive also recently added  reactions boxes that you just tick to let us know if you find the blog interesting, funny etc(or not!) . Please use these - it would be great to have more parents contributing to the blog , or even just know if you like it.

The snowdrops and bluebells are extending their treasure baskets collection and will soon be sending letters to you with an appeal for items they'd like to include in these . So when you start your spring cleaning , please don't throw anything out just yet...we may be able to make good use of your unwanted items! And if you are having a clearout - don't forget we have a charity bin outside the Pre-school building so you don't even need to go to the charity shop!

If you'd like anything posted on here- charity events etc or just information you'd like to share with other parents , please let me know and Ill be happy to add it to the next blog.
