Happy Easter!

Hello everyone ,

A very quick message today to remind you that the nursery will be closed on Monday - we know you love coming here(as do we) , but please don't turn up on Monday ....you wont get in!

Not only is it Easter this weekend , but the clocks go forward too .....yes indeed its officially the start of British Summertime(though perhaps not Scottish summertime!)

I will be posting a longer blog next week- something to look forward to once you've eaten all your chocolate :-) . There will be lots of dates for your diary , so please look out for this .

In the meantime - hope you all have a lovely Easter . Enjoy the long weekend!

Craigton Roundup

Good afternoon all,

As we continue to shiver through this endless winter , its hard  to believe that it will be Easter next week...but it is! We shall of course be celebrating this at Craigton with lots of different Easter themed activities. The school house children have already planted grass seed and are carefully watering and watching it grow - this will then go home along with an Easter bunny soon!(They will also be learning all about farm animals next week) All the children will be decorating and rolling eggs , and I'm sure that there will be lots of yummy goodies - its always a very busy baking week! There may even be an array of Easter bonnets :-)

In response to a high level of interest in superheroes , with lots of child led role play involving this , the sunflowers will be having a Princess and Superhero day next Wednesday 27th March . All sunflowers are asked to come dressed as their favourite princess/superhero and bring in a book featuring this to share with the others - Please ensure these are clearly marked with your child's name so we can make sure it gets back to the right person .

As the nasty bugs are still in the community , we continue to have children returning before they are well enough to cope with a nursery day - this means they are being sent home and in some cases delaying their recovery(as well as passing on the virus). Please remember that any child who is unwell or  has a temperature , or has been given medication to reduce one , should not come to nursery .  If recovering , the advice from NHS is to allow 48 hours after the last symptoms . We'd really appreciate your co-operation on this - Thank you.

And now a security matter - recently , some parents/grandparents have sent siblings into the nursery alone to collect children . Please note that we cannot allow children to leave the nursery unless they are in the care of a responsible adult- this is the child's parents or other adult designated by them .

Don't forget that the clocks go FORWARD next weekend so you'll have one hour less to eat all that chocolate , and the nursery will be closed on Easter Monday 1st April .

Appeal

Good morning everyone ,

I'm sorry to inform you that our wonderful cook , Georgia , who produces delicious , nutritious lunches for the children every day , has decided to retire . She will be leaving us at the end of April , to spend time with her family, especially her grandson , who have recently  moved back to the area after sometime abroad .
We'll really miss Georgia - not only is she a great cook , but also a lovely lady and has been a valued member of the Craigton team .

This means that we are looking for a new cook . If you know of anyone who may be interested in this , please ask them to contact me . They don't need to be a master chef - just a good basic cook!

Thank you

Health Notice

Good morning everyone ,

We have had a confirmed case of chickenpox in the sunflowers building . Below is a link to the symptoms

http://www.patient.co.uk/health/chickenpox-in-children-under-12

Please note that the incubation period can be up to 21 days before symptoms appear . Any child with chickenpox cannot return to nursery until no new spots are appearing , and those spots are healing(usually about 5 days after first symptoms)

We still also have the flu like virus hanging around , some children have been affected more than once . Please keep your child at home if they are unwell . These viruses/infections are highly contagious and affect all the children at nursery , their families , and the staff . Also , if your child becomes unwell whilst with us , please pick them up as soon as you can - thank you .

Its been a busy time recently, with Mother's Day last weekend , Red Nose Day today and St. Patrick's Day on Sunday - lots of activity linked to these has been going on at Craigton . This morning , the sunflowers have been creating special RND superheroes  online , and just about everyone has come in something red.

The schoolhouse children have been looking at all kinds of animals recently - including  pets . Please bring in pictures/information if you have any pets at home- the children love sharing pictures and experiences with their friends .

Our newly planted orchard seems to have  survived the recent return of the wintry conditions - lets just hope spring is on its way!

And finally , our friends at BHF (charity bin) are putting out an appeal for shoes . So if you're having a clearout , please put your items in our red wheelie bin located outside the sunflowers entrance .
Don't forget that if you're involved in a charity event or have anything you'd like to share with us , please let me know and I'll post it on here.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend

World Book Day

Good morning  all ,

Yes its World Book Day on Thursday 7th March , All children are welcome to bring their favourite book to share with us at nursery(clearly named please) and to come along dressed as their favourite character from any book . There's also a Scholastic catalogue out at the moment - you can use your WBD tokens for this , and please have any orders back by Friday 8th.
Its also Mothers' Day on Sunday- please don't forget ! Of course we always celebrate this special day at Craigton so  make sure you check your child's folder/file......we wouldn't want anyone to miss a special creation:-)
We have some more celebrations this month too- Its busy in March this year! Its St.Patrick's Day on 17th and Easter 31st. The clocks also go FORWARD on this date as British summertime starts(no comment!) and we can look forward to lighter evenings and hopefully the arrival of spring.
Our fruit trees have now been planted in our new orchard - the sunflowers did a great job digging and clearing and planting , under the expert guidance of Joanne from Gardening4Kids. The children are looking forward to caring for the  young  trees , though I don't think the trees will grow quickly enough to please them! Hopefully we can start preparing the growing areas soon , and get planting  some faster  growing crops too :-)

Craigton Orchard

Good morning everyone ,

We shall be planting our new fruit trees today(Friday) in our new orchard area . Joanne from Gardening4Kids will be coming this afternoon to oversee the planting , and be on hand to help and advise us in this exciting project . We are hoping that all the children will benefit from this - they will be able to care for the trees , watch them grow ...and eventually enjoy the fruit! It will also create a calm tranquil area for the children to enjoy. We will be taking lots of pictures, and the progress of our orchard will be posted on the Grounds for Learning website - we'll issue details for this when available.
Don't forget that the sunflowers plans for the orchard are on display in their room.

The Infant and Toddler Forum(ITF) have published new leaflets on healthy eating for under 3's . You can view or download these at    www.infantandtoddlerforum.org . The site also has useful information on weaning , fussy eaters , vitamin supplements and restricted diets.

Can I please remind you to let us know if someone other than you will be collecting your child . Its important that we know who will be collecting the children , and that they have your permission to do so. Also , please call us if your child will not be attending nursery for any reason- thank you .

We are celebrating at Craigton today - not only is it St.David's Day , but Julie (sunflowers) marks 20 years with us tomorrow! We are very fortunate to have very low staff turnover here , and many of our staff have been with us for a long time......but none as long as Julie :-)  well done Julie - here's to the next 20 years !

And finally a reminder that we shall be closed on the following dates this year :

6th May - May Day
8th July- Aberdeen holiday
23rd September - Aberdeen holiday
